About Jenny Davis

Born and raised in Memphis, Jenny Davis is an active performer with a passion for teaching. She has been fortunate to study with some of the world's best flutists and is committed to passing on to her students what she has learned from her teachers.  Her students have been prize winners in competitions such as the Memphis Youth Symphony Concerto Competition and Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition and have been selected to perform with ensembles such as the Memphis Youth Symphony, Germantown Youth Symphony, and the All West and All State Tennessee Honor Bands. 

Jenny currently performs with the Luna Nova Ensemble, Blueshift Ensemble, Memphis Repertory Orchestra and freelances with other area ensembles including the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and the PRIZM Ensemble. She is a co-founder and the director of the Blueshift Ensemble, a contemporary chamber music ensemble in Memphis, TN. Jenny teaches flute lessons at several area schools including Overton High School, Christian Brothers High School, Colonial Middle School, Houston Middle School, and at De la Salle Elementary as a part of the PRIZM In the Schools program.

Jenny recently returned to Memphis after studying at Boston University, where she received her Master of Music degree as a student of Linda Toote. While in Boston, Jenny studied the art of teaching as the Boston Flute Academy's Teaching Assistant. She was mentored by flutist Judy Grant as she worked with students of all ages and levels, teaching masterclasses, conducting ensembles, and presenting workshops on a wide variety of topics to students of all ages.  Jenny also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Boston University directing the Boston University Flute Ensemble.

Jenny spent two years studying in Kent, England with British flutist and pedagogue Trevor Wye at his Flute Studio, an intensive post-graduate flute course. The course focused on teaching students about all aspects of musicianship, from the technicalities of flute playing to the finest points of musical expression. 

Jennifer holds degrees from Middle Tennessee State University (B.M., magna cum laude) and Boston University (M.M.). Her flute teachers include Dr. Deanna Little (MTSU), Ruth Ann McClain, Linda Toote (Boston U.), and Trevor Wye. She is an active member of the National Flute Association and is a board member of the Mid-South Flute Society and the Beethoven Club of Memphis. She has also performed in numerous masterclasses for some of the world's top flutists including William Bennett, Bonita Boyd, Brad Garner, Carol Wincenc, Lorna McGhee, Denis Bouriakov, Marianne Gedigian, and Jim Walker.
